1.
Gumb 03:13
Conversation as placeholder Back and forth Thoughts collide in the forefront Back and forth I felt glossed over in a crowded room And so I burrowed holes into the carpet below And now I bite down on a spitting tongue But it never erases the tension that's always present
2.
If comparison is the thief of joy Well it can't be a thief if I let it inside And I'm putting a jar out to collect your opinions Yeah I'm taking a poll, I need to know how to feel Oh, so melodramatic Such a lack of conviction If I could etch a sketch my cortex You know, that I might give it a try All I'm saying is I'm running myself ragged And I think I see bone And my voice is pretty sore Cause I was trying to be clean and serene Yeah simplify my needs But then they changed the answers to the questions Without telling me If success can be measured Intimacy can too If contentment can be measured Satisfaction can too Well that's just a lie, it's just a quota That I keep in my mind And the tank can't run dry if I fuel it every night (It's too cliche to say how I feel)
3.
Overflow of salt in the passenger seat You amplify what I don't need I lost my balance and sheen Yeah you don't have to lie And we're faced with a boundary situation We cannot even rectify So I choose to color the in between space With a color that I don't even like And if happiness, is just removing the defective parts Yeah, merely addition by subtraction Well I wanna hoard all the broke down junk ' Just to prove them wrong (And I was trying my best to explain that to you)
4.
Searching For an appropriate thing to say Like a magician, I pulled my answer out of a hat Thought I had a contingency plan in place They said God laughed While I fumbled for what to say And you were sobbing on the receiving end I was a vanishing handrail as you fumbled down the stairs Shaking in the kitchen Don't think they wanna notice Select your attention Filter out every awkward tick Every loss for words Make your own perception It'll only fit you Still you were sobbing on the receiving end I felt so helpless so I took my hands off the steering wheel

about

“Conversation as placeholder, back and forth / Thoughts collide in the forefront, back and forth” is detachedly half-shouted over nervy, jangly guitar within the first seconds of 'Gumb’, which perfectly sets up the tone for the rest of Boundary Situations: drenched in tension & full of emotion, sans the melodrama. Charles Rogers finds a middle ground between newer bands such as XERXES, Frameworks and Self Defense Family while still harkening back to golden-era bands such as Fugazi and Drive Like Jehu. They seamlessly explore a range of post-hardcore’s dynamics in the mere 14 minutes of this EP; the first two tracks utilize jerky start-stop rhythms & controlled yet powerful climaxes. ‘Not Finding, Remembering to Look’ harnesses a deceivingly upbeat energy, ‘Keep Discreet’ grants reprieve from the torrent of harshness with driving ambience. But all of the songs have a similar anxious feeling that ties it all together, makes the songs really get under your skin, and makes for a great release from a very promising band.
